Boone County adopted the 2021 IRC, locally. Note that adoptions usually come with amendments. So, it is important to review those amendments in addition to the unamended model code.

Boone County, Illinois adopted the 2021 International Residential Code (IRC), with amendments. Boone County, IL, Muni. Code § 18-28 (adoption) and § 18-29 (amendments).

(e) Revise Section R313 to read as follows:

  1. R313—Automatic Fire Sprinkler Systems.

i.R313.1 Duplex/Townhouse automatic fire sprinkler systems. An automatic residential fire sprinkler shall not be required to be installed in duplexes/townhouses.

ii. R313.1.1 Design and Installation. If an Automatic residential fire sprinkler system is  installed voluntarily in a duplex/townhome, it shall be designed and installed in accordance with the current edition of the Illinois Plumbing Code and NFPA 13D.

iii. R313.1.2 Other Code Requirements. All structures built without automatic fire sprinkler systems shall comply with all code requirements of the International Residential Code for non-sprinklered construction.

iv. R313.2 One family dwellings automatic fire systems. An automatic residential fire sprinkler system shall not be required to be installed in one family dwellings, including additions and alterations to such dwellings.

v. R313.2.1 Design and Installation. If an Automatic residential fire sprinkler system is installed voluntarily in a one family dwelling, it shall be designed and installed in accordance with the current edition of the Illinois Plumbing Code and NFPA 13D.

vi. R313.2.2 Other Code Requirements. All structures built without automatic fire sprinkler systems shall comply with all code requirements of the International Residential Code for non-sprinklered construction.

 

Existing Buildings

Existing buildings, meaning buildings that were built in accordance to code at the time of construction, typically merit extra consideration in a current updated code.

Boone County, Illinois, did not adopt the IEBC.

Commercial Building Code

Boone County adopted the 2003 IBC, statewide with limitations. Note that adoptions usually come with amendments. So, it is important to review those amendments in addition to the unamended model code.
